Pentakill, the in-game League of Legends heavy metal band, is getting a real-world album release. The Rift riffing, summoner shredding band Pentakill is bringing metal back to the Fields of Justice with their new album, Smite and Ignite. It's a Pentakill skin so has Kayle decked out in heavy metal-style armour, joining the likes of Pentakill Sona, Yorick, Karthus, Olaf and Mordekaiser.
Here, a ‘deathfire grasp' was one of the more powerful ways to blast your foes into neon smithereens and Pentakill isn't just the ultimate achievement of slaughtering five enemies in one go, but also the name of the in-game rock band made up of character ‘skins' made to look like face-melting Medieval metal musicians.
In addition to this tight timeframe, we also had to get on the same page with the Riot Games music department, with the actual musicians who made the tracks, with the graphic designers who created the band members, and with the marketing team responsible for promoting the game and the album.
Lyrically the songs are made specifically to fit the League of Legends” concept, and even though they might work also in real life symbolically, it wouldn't feel natural to perform more than one song or a shorter medley if it was a part of a Jorn or Avantasia live set.
After the disastrous end to their last live performance, where Mordekaiser destroyed the entirety of the Freljordian crowd, Karthus gave the fateful order for Olaf to drum the Worldsplitter Rhythm” that sundered the land and brought down the icy realm's highest peak upon Mordekaiser.
Having become a Billboard hit with their 2014 debut 8 track EP ‘Smite And Ignite' , featuring such modern metal streamer classics as ‘Ohmwrecker' and ‘The Hex Core', Pentakill are set to release their first full album ‘Pentakill II: Grasp Of The Undying'. Karthus picked up his microphone, dressed in a decent suit and now he looks like a real metal band singer.
The result, released just recently on the iTunes app store, allows League of Legends players to quickly check up on the strengths and skills of one of those 100+ champion characters. Seven new Pentakill icons are also available for 250 RP each: Pentakill Kayle Icon, Pentakill II icon, Pentakill Karthus Icon, Pentakill Olaf icon, Pentakill Yorick icon, Pentakill Sona icon, and the Pentakill Mordekaiser icon.
Pentakill Karthus was introduced to us in the role of a singer in the heavy metal band - Pentakill. He was, along with Olaf being inspired by Lemmy Killmister, Mordekaiser by GWAR (sort of), Karthus by Jørn Lande and Sona by Simone Simons. In short: one of CLG's players killed all five of TSM's players ("League of Legends" is a five-on-five game).
In 2014 the Riot label issued the band's first foray out of the video game realm, an eight-track collection of appropriately punishing songs titled Smite and Ignite that relied on the talents of session musicians, including vocalists Jorn Lande (Masterplan) and ZP Theart (Dragonforce).
In 2014 the Riot Games music label issued the band's first foray out of the video game realm, Smite & Ignite - an eight-track collection of appropriately punishing songs that was written completely in-house at Riot, and supported by the talents of studio musicians, including vocalists Jorn Lande (Masterplan) and ZP Theart (Dragonforce).
JL: Pentakill is still so fresh and new that it doesn't seem right to start playing songs from the two albums, especially since there hasn't been any Pentakill tour yet or individual shows to establish the band as a live act in the global music scene.
